Meditation is one of the techniques that has been clinically proven to relieve stress. Find a quiet place to sit, where you won’t be disturbed. Make sure you are comfortable – some people like to sit on the floor with lots of comfy cushions, with some soothing background music. Close your eyes and try to clear your mind – focus on a word or a phrase, such as ‘I am’ or very simply ‘ohm’ and repeat this over and over and really concentrate on this word or phrase. Don’t allow your mind to wander. Concentrate on your breathing. Breathe in and out slowly and deeply, relaxing your shoulders and neck with every out breath. Practise this for about 10 to 20 minutes at least once a day.
